SCAPE Women in Art Fundraising Exhibition, Christchurch

During the 2019 March 15 school lockdown a friend (and artist) invited a Muslim woman into her home to wait out the closure. This simple interaction sparked an idea for a cultural food / art exchange programme entitled, “I will not return your dish empty”. I was invited to participate, drawing on my Latvian heritage. I began looking closely at traditional Latvian patterns used in clothing, tablecloths, knitting. The resulting circular works hint at the round table of old, a safe place for women to share food, laughter and conversation.
